One of the biggest challenge in teaching English to kids is when your student is 4 years old and therefore is considered as a Level 0 student. How are you going to teach English to a kid like him?
Last night, I had Rico, a vivacious 4 year old kid. Yes, he was attentive but he was more engrossed with the huge bowl of popcorn on his lap. Kids will always be kids, give him food and everything will be melting down around him and he won't bat an eye. So, how will you teach a kid like this? One trick is to use songs. Kids love songs, action songs specifically. It feeds their need to move and it will engage their attention. Songs are sticky. It will play in your mind unconsciously, kind of like LSS or Last Song Syndrome. Through songs, kids are learning without them knowing. Take for example, the Alphabet Song. You teach the kid the song and he will be singing to his heart's content. And viola! The kid already knows the alphabet.
Teaching kids is fun but it often stretches your imagination on how will you present the lesson to your student in a way that you can be sure that he will learn something from that lesson.
