We seem to have become programmed to look for nothing but downhill paths - life hacks, instant gratification, shortcuts to happiness - but for me, the most rewarding results come with some form of uphill effort required to achieve them. I get great satisfaction from completing a difficult goal, and i know i have developed as a result.
