Have you ever wondered how it is like living in cold places? Playing with snow outside the house using thick clothes and best of all try to snowboard. Well I had that thought in my head since I was a kid. Looking at it from the TV does not give you the real feeling of the wind chill, the soft powdery snow and the atmosphere on site. For me I was lucky to be given the opportunity to work in one of those places and experience first-hand the daily life in the cold winter place.
When you put your mind into it. You can do anything you want. So for me i have a bucket list of things i need to do before my age catch up and can hardly move around. One of it is snowboarding......There is no limit to what you can do, taken from another made up motivation from somebody. It looks easy and people will say "haiya sap sap soi wan..1 hour i will be an expert" but believe me i was fooled too. It takes practice, endurance and will power to achieve the goal. It was not easy at all. So for those of you who have a bucket list and want to snowboard before they leave this earth, here are a few tips that i can share with you.
First thing first...Safety
Dress Code - When you want to try snowboarding please do not go there and use your normal attire. Well to be honest i did it for the first time with my jeans and normal winter jacket but after the first try my butt was soaked wet and it was very windy on the hill, to make it worse it took me about 1 hour for a beginner like me to reach the bottom. Unless you want to tumble down like Jack and Jill LOL, surely that will take a shorter time. So lesson learn! use enough insulated clothing with water proof & wind proof type of jacket. Same goes to the pants, bring a scarf, use lip gloss, hat that covers your ears and don't forget to put on something like football socks on. Believe me that will help. These snow particles can go in anywhere.
PPE - Personal protective equipment. By all means if you are a beginner please buy/rent a bum guard, arm guard, helmet, proper gloves, full covered glasses and somebody to pull you out from the snow in case you get stuck LOL. Either wise you will look and feel like Rocky Bilboa when you sleep at night. If you have a soft snow on the hill that will not hurt much but when you fall on the ice cold slopes ... prepare for a beating by Manny Pacquiao not on the face but on your butt. Remember this safety equipment really help to ease the pain and for you to be more confident while learning the moves.
Buddy System - Please bring along a friend who can teach you a thing or two. If not at least an instructor that can guide you how to snowboard. Do your research first before trying. How to move, how to fall, your body posture, the do's and don’ts because that will help a lot to spend less time learning up there with the cold wind.
I am really privileged to have 2 best buddies and spend some time together for the video session. Really it was not easy for them to take the videos with their bare hands because of the IPhone touch screen that won’t respond with your gloves on.
Enjoy the soothing video of a person who just like a toddler learning his few steps snowboarding on the slopes.
