I'm an avid retro game lover. Especially arcade games. I used to go to shopping mall to play arcade games such as King of Fighters, Street Fighter, Metal Slug, and many more. That was 15 years ago.
Now, I play all the arcade games using an emulator on my notebook. So, what is an emulator?
An emulator is a type of software that allows a PC/ Notebook to emulate a video game console's hardware, and play its respective games on the emulating platform. Example of emulated console are such as:
- Playstation
- Atari Arcade
- Nintendo Entertainment System (NES)
There's a lot of emulator available in the world wide web. Most of it is free to download. The one that I recommend is NeoGeoX. NeoGeo able to support a various games that is meant for arcade.
Just now in the upper section, I have explain about the use of arcade game emulator. Now the questions is, how to get the games?
Similar to the emulator, out there is a lot website that offer free ROMs for retro game. What is ROM?
- A ROM is a set of computer file. Usually in image or file format. Which every ROM contains a copy of the data from a read-only memory chip.
Usually I get a copy of ROM from romsmania
From there, u can obtain the ROM for games. Just name what type of game that you wanted. Romsmania have a wide selection of it.
Below is the screenshot of games played in NeoGeo emulator
