Most people joined Steem usually think its like Facebook where they can just do whatever they want. So they end up copy/pasting anything they got from the Internet and upload pictures randomly without thinking about who owns the pictures.
I'm still new, only registered on May and posted my first post on August, so these are the list I have compiled from my brief experience in steemit.
1- Avoid Plagiarism/Stealing Content
There's a bot called which can identify a post in Steemit stolen from another post somewhere else in the Internet. If you are caught by
, it will give you a warning reply and the link to the site which have a simillar post like you.
2- Be Careful With Pictures You Upload
If the picture we upload were not made by us or our own photograph, we must make sure of the picture's copyright license. Since we are making money from content, using other people's picture is very unethical. So to avoid any problem from someone like to flag you, make sure you attribute the picture to the original owner if it is licensed under Creative Commons. Visit their website to understand more about Creative Commons license type and how to reuse works under it.
3- Respect The Tags
Most tags are very specific like #steemit are strictly for steemit related tags. If you are caught, you might end up inside post as a Tag Spammer. So if you are not sure about which Tag your post should use, please use the blog tag because a blog can be anything.
4- Don't Steal Other's Identity
Identity theft is a serious crime, you can't be someone you are not --especially another person. For example taken from , someone claimed to be the
and another claimed to be National Geographic. And so the list goes on of people being someone else.
5- Avoid Posting The Same Thing Again
Not getting any upvotes is frustrating, some might resort to re-posting the similar previous post and they might end up being caught by to end up in the list of Spammers.
6- Respect The Comment Section
Never reply a post randomly like 's many comments. You might end up
's list of comment spammer or even worse--massive downvotes and flags. Not to forget don't just quickly comment without reading the post so you can be the first and get early upvote. Promoting your unrelated post also can be categorised as a comment spam.
7-Be Respectful
Sometimes our post might offends someone and if that someone is a whale with massive SP, our post will have nothing even after hundreds of people have upvoted.
I guess there's more, but IMHO the list above are more than enough to be on the safe side of Steem. Feedbacks and replies are very welcomed because I am still a minnow learning to swim.
