A great culture brings out the best in people delivering the quality at the best effortlessly in work environment.
Likewise, a toxic culture disrupt/demotivates people delivering negative perception, noise, drama bringing bad days to worse
Many people have written on work culture, how it should be and managed. In my oppinion, the leader or business owner attracts people that complement him from skills to communication. That’s the gist of work culture.
- My view or preference is the absolute way
This isn’t a bad things, but the effect of this mindset in a growing people business is detrimental. When we are in a growing business we should be always open in discussing ideas put forward and decide the ideal one forward that reflects and aligns on the organization goal.
- Attrition becomes talk of the town.
People join the organization based on either perception on people leading the organization or the organization as a whole.
People leave solely because of the perception isn’t true and they don’t like working in the environment. It will be very obvious when job change/opportunity the conversation over lunch or around water cooler. This indicates people are frustrated with something in the organization.
- Meetings becomes gossips sessions
This is where we suspend the organizations agenda and bring forward personal and people backstabbing forward. Open an transparent organization and management is essential today, people will know what messaging is target to individual and certain groups secretively. Worst case is when they start sharing the message among others..
- No sign of appreciation,
From management to people or between people in the organization. This is a clear indication to move on. Worst case when they begin undermining your contribution.
In conclusion : a toxicated environment is easier felt than realising. Sometime it’s important for us to validate the situation objectively and finalize our decision.
