Hi everyone, hows the weekend? I managed to visit Ranau today just a day trip. All the way back to kk, I’m still thinking and curious, is anyone other than me who does not know about Mamut copper mine located in Ranau? haha seriously this story new to me.
My phone ringing today morning, it was my friend asking me if i want to join them going to visit former copper mine, So I said let’s go! I have some of crazy friends, we love to do random and unplanned things together.
Umm what I know the place cannot be visited indiscriminately, but actually up to now I'm not sure the place is forbidden to visit or not.
We take 1 hours drive from Ranau town up to Mamut, at the end of road there is a gate, it was chained and also has a signboard written Dilarang masuk and penceroboh akan ditangkap so we decided to park the car outside the gate and walk another 30 minutes to get right there. Seriously the roads there are very bad.
walking about 20 minute, and still don't know where is the place. Guess what in their mind
Hutan simpan? umm so many warning signboard along the road
Ok let me tell you guys a little what I know about copper mines this is from my friend who is born in Ranau.
She said Mamut copper mine is a valuable historical (located in Ranau Sabah) and also one of the world's leading copper producers major in the world long time ago. However, the history not many people know even sabahan people (including me hee..)
The opening of these mines brought a great deal of change to the local community especially in terms of economic development, but also has a slight impact on the population. At the end of 1999 Mamut mine was closed due to the overflow of water mixed with copper flowing out and damaging crops, pets and the land of the locals were damaged.
Tadaa! does it look like a copper mine?
Beautiful isn't?
This ex-mining site has become an attractive artificial lake to visit, but they said must be careful if you come visit this place. Feel free to comment yaa.
