I hate sitting in a car.
Particularly when I have to travel to work, tedious and repetitive. The same old thing. I have a confession to make.
When I moved to Johannesburg nearly twenty years ago, I never seriously entertained the idea of working for the corporates. This I know is strange because a degree in accounting can demand sitting in a sterile, air-conditioned office, working incredibly demanding hours. I have had my taste and it is enough thank you.
So it has left me without the financial rewards that could be expected. I love spending money I confess but I don't like the price of hours on a daily basis sitting in traffic. When UNISA sneakily changed the venue of writing exams from the Roodepoort venue to the middle of Randburg in Johannesburg, it drove me virtually nuts. When we wrote exams, the papers would be written during the week, start at just before eight and finish just after five in the afternoon if my memory serves me correct. However this entailed getting up just before five in the morning and getting home after six in the evening, while spending about four hours sitting in a car. When we did the exams we would write five days in about ten calendar days, three in the morning and three in the afternoon.
I HATED the traffic and it has reinforced my desires not to go there despite the allure of exciting accounting challenges.
So I have a job that cannot compare in terms of fiscal rewards, but there is one reward that I appreciate every single day. The sheer beauty of my trip to work and back home.
I know I talk (or type) too much. For once, let the camera on my cell phone do the talking for me. Remember that I live in the highveld or the upper escarpment of South Africa. The land is not gentle but it has beauty in its own way, especially now since all the rain we have had.
Enjoy...
(Michele and I were married in March, so the cosmos flower is our favourite, especially the red one)
(pink ones aren't too bad either)
(traffic jam that I can tolerate)
(lots of irrigation)
(early start for these folk)
(stunning vivid yellow contrast)
(everyone was passing me, yes I know I am wicked )
(even the little drab flowers that are often overlooked I appreciate)
(beautiful detail)
(incredible isn't it?)
(my work destination)
I felt a bit self conscious stopping on the side of the road but I wanted to share with you what I look at every day while travelling to and from work. It varies with the seasons and rain but the sheer beauty of what I have to look at is very therapeutic. If I had a decent camera, I could take long range photos and show you more of what my eyes see.
I reckon the people I really admire on this Steemit site are those who travel. I really do appreciate their amazing photos. South Africa is a country with the most incredible diversity of people, fauna and flora. It is well worth a trip to those of you who are adventurous.
In the meantime I will just continue to appreciate the amazing scenery that I am privileged to enjoy on a daily basis
