I’ve been of to the Tuckers Maltings a couple of times this week with
It‘s a great bar with a really good selection both on tap and in bottles as these few photos show.
And there’s more.
With all this to chose from it was a bit hard to make a selection but I finally plumped for a bottle of Tynt Meadow a 7.4%ABV traditional Trappist Ale brewed by Cistercian Monks of Mount St Bernard Abbey in Charnwood Forest in Leicestershire so close to home for @Scubahead.
If I going to be honest I didn’t realise we had any Trappist breweries in the UK. I have visited a couple in France and Belgium over the years maybe I should stick this one on my list.
The beer is a rich dark ale with aromas and of dark chocolate, liquorice and fruit the flavour of dark chocolate, pepper, and fig. Very drinkable but a little sweet for my taste and definitely not a session beer. Great for sipping in front of the fire on a cold winters evening.
The name Tynt Meadow was chosen by the monks as it is the name of the original plot of land where the Abbey was founded in 1835.
This is a photo from the Abbey website of the brewing and the dedicated monks. Looks high tech not sure if a lot of tasting goes on they look quite sober.
