I still remember the days when Windows 95 came on a set of 20 floppy disks. There was even a market for floppy disks carry on boxes, and when I finally got my hands on one of those, I felt like a true geek, carrying around my operating system like nothing else mattered. I was barely 21, but that doesn't matter anymore.
What matters, though, is that the world doesn't stop. Progress is unfolding whether we like it or not and many magical things are possible because of that. One of these magic things is that you can, now, to run Windows 95 on your Mac OS, as an Electron application. Electron is an app packager used, among other thousands of hundreds of app, by the wallets Jaxx and Vessel (wrote by ).
The whole port was written by a Slack developer called Felix Rieseberg and you can download the Mac OS version from his Github repository (along with versions for Linux and, ironically, Windows).
Here's a short collection of screenshots taken while I was playing with it the other day:
And yes, Solitaire was working beautifully, so I took the time to play one:
And won, obviously:
In case you're wandering, there's absolutely no practical use for doing this, unless you really have some old apps that are working only in Windows 95. Chances are that those apps are also relying on some particular libs that are hard to find, so don't hold your breath.
But as a throwback Sunday, this was cool.
