Another reason to keep the robot with the soldiers is. In times of war, many times the enemy has kept a strong bomb under the secret or underground soil. Then the robot will find out that bomb before leaving the soldier. There is no pair of robots to carry weapons and ammunition immediately. Robot will follow his master like a real dog.
