Yahoo was one of the first internet giants to be created in 1994. It was initially named 'Jerry and David's Guide to the World Wide Web', serving as an indexed web directory for users. It was only the following year, when the name was officially changed to Yahoo. Yahoo was one of the most successful internet companies in the late 1990's, before it crashed during the dotcom burst in 2001. Yahoo was also followed by several high profile acquisitions by the likes of Microsoft and AOL which were quite successful and controversial. The brand Yahoo grew out of prominence in the following years, after a series of CEO's and eventually a planned acquisition by Verizon after which the company would be renamed as Altaba.
