NEW DELHI: Gopal Vittal, Bharti Airtel’s CEO for India, has pushed employees to make every effort to gain revenue market share (RMS) over the next two years, saying the building blocks such as network expansion, content tie-ups and a lean organisation are all in place.
In a letter to employees ahead of Reliance Jio Infocomm completing two years, Vittal acknowledged times were tough for the telecom industry, but also pointed out the opportunities with three players — the others being Vodafone Idea and Jio — serving a 1.3 billion customer market. He also underlined the importance of privacy of the company’s almost 345 million customers and the need to protect their data.
Bharti Airtel lost its No. 1 ranking to the entity created by the merger of Vodafone India with Idea Cellular last week, but the Sunil Mittal-owned company is only 50 basis points shy of Vodafone Idea’s 32.2% RMS, with Jio at 22.4%.
