The wreck - presumably, of a vehicle driven by a negligent student - was situated at the entrance to a local high school campus. Hopefully it worked - the majority of humans takes cues best off visual images, so this has a high chance of being successful.
I remember a car wreck displayed on my college campus. And yes, this was awhile ago - I graduated in 1992.
The car was a sports car of some kind. It had a relatively low clearance. On that fateful night when it turned into that wreck, there were four people in it - two in the front and two in the back. They went to a party and then went driving. They ended up driving the vehicle underneath the back of an 18-wheeler trailer.
The top of the vehicle was basically sheered off. The two people in the front died. The two people in the back lived, though ended up permanently handicapped. I have no idea how anyone had survived that crash.
Since then, safety features have improved - but still, every time you drive, you basically control a large peiple of metal moving at high speed. The risk is always there. We shouldn't forget that.
