If I need to sum up iPhone X in one sentence it would be:
(Expensive) KING of design and performance with more space for progress.
In general I'm not an Apple fan. I really like the design, but I don't like the "brand" thing with 25% more expensive products than the rest of the "normal" market. Even though I'm not a fan of an Apple that's why this post gives even more weight on my review.
Design
Design part was made perfectly! It looks way different than the previous models and even other brands - modern and futuristic. With non-framed display iPhone X finally gives that touch that everyone needed for the 10th anniversary of first iPhone. Display is adjusted to most common act on smartphones today, scrolling, and first thing you notice when you see it is the "notch" - "a bite off" on the top. Like it or not you need to admit that it's innovative in design of phones.
TrueDepth // FaceID
There are couple of novelties when it comes to "X". TrueDepth, as the main novelty, is a revolutionary technology built-in into, before not so important, selfie camera. Thanks to that technology, selfie camera detects the depth of the face "construction", and finally leads to FaceID - biometric phone unlock by recognizing the owner's face.
TrueDepth CAMERA:
- 7MP camera
- Portrait mode
- Portrait Lighting (beta)
- Animoji
- 1080p HD video recording
- Retina Flash
- ƒ/2.2 aperture
- Wide color capture for photos and Live Photos
- Auto HDR
- Backside illumination sensor
- Body and face detection
- Auto image stabilization
- Burst mode
- Exposure control
- Timer mode
Face ID:
- Enabled by TrueDepth camera for facial recognition
Price
Of all expectations, we have the high price also, maybe even more than I expected. Around 1200$ for basic model, and if you want upgrades (like more memory, fast charger, extended warranty...) it grabs big steps up - MOON! So if you want to buy it, prepare to cash a big amount of money, and it will leave a mark in your balance for sure. This is the most negative side of this fine looking model.
Issues
Searching the internet about iPhone X, I find out about many issues that people came up with. Auto-correct fails, mysterious green line on the display, freezing when it's cold..., are just some of them, and it leaves me questioning, is this product even finished? Is it worth it?
Do I go for the expensive design? Or do I go for "normal", cheaper, fully functional mobile phone?
Display // Size // Weight
Display with the screen-to-body rate of 82,9% makes iPhone X way smaller and practical than "8 Plus" and practically, when it comes to size and weight brings iPhone X close to origins, to the first iPhone. Here are some stats about size, weight and display taken from the official Apple web page:
SIZE AND WEIGHT:
- Height: 5.65 inches (143.6 mm)
- Width: 2.79 inches (70.9 mm)
- Depth: 0.30 inch (7.7 mm)
- Weight: 6.14 ounces (174 grams)
DISPLAY:
- Super Retina HD display
- 5.8-inch (diagonal) all-screen OLED Multi-Touch display
- HDR display
- 2436-by-1125-pixel resolution at 458 ppi
- 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio (typical)
- True Tone display
- Wide color display (P3)
- 3D Touch
- 625 cd/m2 max brightness (typical)
- Fingerprint-resistant oleophobic coating
- Support for display of multiple languages and characters simultaneously
Notch
When it comes to "notch" (bite off part) on the display it's very subjective. Some of you might like it, some of you might not, but actually it's the "tricky" part, because the front camera lens and all kind of sensors are placed in it. Since the left/right space from the "notch" is not usable, developers put there all the status information like status information, battery, time,...
Camera
Dual 12 MP rear camera with LED flash is basically the same as on the previous model (iPhone 7 Plus) and it comes with built-in optical image stabilization. Apple is still one of the best when it comes up to quality of the daily photos or static night photos.
CAMERA:
- 12MP wide-angle and telephoto cameras
- Wide-angle: ƒ/1.8 aperture
- Telephoto: ƒ/2.4 aperture

- Burst mode
- Timer mode
- Photo geotagging
- Image formats captured: HEIF and JPEG
Battery
Little bit about battery life. Apple claims that one full charge of iPhone X is enough for approx. 13 hours usage of the it. According to the tests on the internet, runned by the users, we can say that it's not exactly 13 hours, but with one full charge you can survive a day.
POWER AND BATTERY:
- Lasts up to 2 hours longer than iPhone 7
- Talk time (wireless):
Up to 21 hours- Internet use:
Up to 12 hours- Video playback (wireless):
Up to 13 hours- Audio playback (wireless):
Up to 60 hours- Fast-charge capable:
Up to 50% charge 30 minutes9- vBuilt-in rechargeable lithium-ion battery

Conclusion
At the end things that bought us in case of iPhone X are definitely design, performance, FaceID, TrueDepth front camera, Display, and"notch". On the other hand, high price, fast charger is not included in the package, no 3,5 mm audio jack, a lot of issues and bugs with iOS, again price, are the things that make iPhone X undesirable mobile phone, even though it's so beautiful to see. To make it more clear, iPhone X is most overpriced piece of technology today :)
You can have all those performance, and even better one, within decent design for way smaller amount of money. Samsung for example, or Huawei...
