The biggest Software Company Microsoft is confirmed to acquire the most popular Git repository GitHub for 7.9 Billion dollars in stock by the end of this year 2018. As per the CEO of Microsoft, Satya Nadella , once the GitHub has been acquired they are planning to accelerate enterprise developers’ use of GitHub, with their direct sales and partner channels to access Microsoft’s global cloud infrastructure and services.
Github is a web-based code hosting service for version control that uses the Git technology to push or pull the codes. It also offers all of the distributed version control and source code management (SCM) functionality of Git as well as adding its own features. It provides access control and several collaboration features such as bug tracking, feature requests, task management, and wikis for every project
With these plan, most of the developers are already pitching in their concern because Github is also an open source and their concern is that will Microsoft continue to make it as open, Can they sustain its functionality? as so we know that some of the company on the previous years that has been acquired by Microsoft had its downfall or had an issue on Its stability and abuses.
For all the concerns, there are still plenty of reasons to see this merge as a positive for Microsoft and GitHub users. With the past years, Microsoft has been actively pushing open source technology, and the company has open sourced in Visual Studio Community and acquired Xamarin to assist with mobile app development. Microsoft also partnered to Linux to bring Ubuntu to Windows 10.
Are you a developer that also uses GitHub ? So whats your reaction on this Merge? With the Microsoft reputation do you thing this will be good or bad merge?
