When it comes to automated vehicles, there is a significant legal hurdle that no one talks about. What should the vehicle do in the case of an impending collision? Such a decision cannot be literally coded in, there would be some AI that would take everything into consideration and make said decision. However, I think instances where the vehicle decides that running itself off of the road, or into another vehicle to minimize the loss of life would be coded out. I think that if the car made such a decision, it would make the manufacturer of the car responsible for those deaths.
