The problem with some of these applications such as Instagram, is that it's what many call bloatware - they ship with the phone, and can't be uninstalled. Just the fact that they come pre-installed lead to many more users than if it weren't pre-installed.

So it's not necessary the best products that wins, but the marketing.

But again, isn't that how everything else goes too.
