It was several years ago that Elon Musk originally created the concept of a Hyperloop. Now, it looks strikingly close to reality. Musk recently created The Boring Company, seemingly on a whim. None the less, the company is now real and so are it's tunnels. They have created a test track starting in the SpaceX parking lot, which has since run some tests.
Musk has since planned a route between Washington and New York, a trip Musk claims can be done in under 30 minutes. The cart will run at an astounding 600 MPH, and carry the cars through a vast network of tunnels. He also also claimed he received "verbal approval" from a federal official, although he hasn't provided specifics.
There are some major roadblocks remaining. He has stated there has to be major reductions in costs to build tunnels in order for this to be economical, but it's unclear how Musk plans to achieve this.
