One of the biggest advancements in technology that we are already witnessing and will continue to do so in an even larger scale, is the gradual adoption of self driving cars by the masses.
Companies like Waymo, Tesla and others have been working for years, testing and trying to perfect their technology so that humanity can transition completely to autonomous cars that can simply pick you up from your location and drop you off without you having to do anything.
Tesla surely has been one of the most influential players in this area. Their electric cars are highly adored by their customers and they have received amazing ratings in every regard possible.
Tesla cars already feature a range of self-driving capabilities but are far from being able to handle every single road condition without the interference of a human driver. But if you go by what Elon Musk has been saying, they will be fully autonomous by 2020.
Take A Nap While Your Car Drives You
Futurists have had this vision for decades where one day, our cars will be able to just pick us up from our locations and drop us off at the destination while we could do anything inside the car as we pleased, even take naps.
For this to actually happen, cars would need to be far better than human drivers and capable of handling an infinite amount of variables that may affect the ride. This could definitely happen in the future, but it's quite hard to believe that such a thing would be possible by next year.
Elon is certainly known to make extravagant predictions and often have to adjust his timeline and I think we could see something similar here too. If not, we are in for a huge and pleasant surprise as early as next year!
Even if companies can manufacture fully self driving cars, it will take regulators quite some time to be comfortable with allowing them to ride without human oversight. It could take almost a decade even before we are allowed to take naps in cars while they drive us around. By that time, the technology would have time to keep getting better.
