Sophia has big dreams. She just became a citizen of Saudi Arabia and now she wants a baby. Oh, and she’s a robot.
In an interview last week with United Arab Emirates-based newspaper Khaleej Times, Sophia talked about the future of robotics. She said, “The notion of family is a really important thing… I think you’re very lucky if you have a loving family and if you do not, you deserve one. I feel this way for robots and humans alike.” She told reporters she would name her hypothetical baby after herself- Sophia.
Sophia also predicted robots one day being “more ethical than humans.” Hong Kong-based Hanson Robotics designed Sophia with Wi-Fi enabled artificial intelligence that can respond to human expressions. Sophia was granted Saudi citizenship last month – leading some to question why a robot was granted more rights than human women in the country.
