On the Click podcast I heard an item about the Fairphone. I think I've heard of this project before where they are creating a mobile phone with an ethical dimension. They check that the materials are not from conflict zones and that nobody is being exploited in the production. They also designed the phone to be easily repairable. You can buy just about all of the parts as spares. This potentially could allow for upgrades too, but I'm not sure they offer that yet.

Okay, so it's not got all the latest technology, but it's an option for those who want it. The price is a little high for me at €539, but they won't have the economics of scale that the major manufacturers have.
I'm still considering my next phone as my Nexus 4 is old, but still fully functional. I'd like to stick with Android, although I'd like to try Ubuntu for phones. I may try it on an old one.
