some few years ago I traveled in Asia, and at one point I lived in the jungle - or call it countryside for almost 3 months. It was a strange experience in many ways. There was very few, almost none who spoke English - and only one who could speak my native language, me. I have wondered many times how I could be there for so long, but studying the culture and the food can be a couple of explanations.
However, I managed to do one movie there - and it was about the Monks doing their ritual. A week after this I took the place for the man who carried the drum, and did the job for him - what is better for the Monks having a western Pilgrim doing a job like this?
I was fascinated how the people sacrificed everything they had for this young guys - but I also recognized that the elder Monks didnt live as simple as you might think. Anyway, this was a nice way for me to walk around with the Monks seeing places that I would never seen if I was not helping them.
I can at least say, been there done that - but I guess this was and will be a one in a lifetime experience!
