. Last week I could finally traveled to the north-east of Thailand. It was very refreshing to see blue sky and the spaciousness of sky including the river running between Laos and Thailand. I decided to stop by the river to take some photos.
As I was very near my old friends’ house, I walked over to visit them. This nice couple has recently put a lot of money into converting their old house into two floor house with six bedrooms for rent. They have a guest house with the river view. Though they have no land for gardening, they use a lot of big earthen pots for their plants. They are especially crazy about orchids and wild flowers.
They used hanging baskets everywhere they could. I quite liked the new house with big spacious rooms for rent. The pandemic and lockdown meant that most of the rooms were not occupied. Several years ago, I rented a room here while waiting for my country house to be built. This place used to be a hub of international travelers. I could remember seeing a Dutch man who came here during winter months in Europe; an Italian programmer and his wife stayed here for a few years while doing his software work for a company back home. My friends told me that the Nepalese artist whom I used to know also had his own house. There used to be a big community of Dutch people living in Nongkhai and they even had their big Christmas party every year. Now things have changed beyond my expectation.
สัปดาห์มี่ผ่านมาเรามีโอกาสเดินทาง ไปพักผ่อนต่างจังหวัดเป็นครั้งแรกในรอบสามเดือน เราดีใจมากที่ได้เปลี่ยนบรรยากาศที่ริมแม่น้ำ ท้องฟ้าสีฟ้าสดใสและระดับน้ำในแม่น้ำขึ้นมาสูงกว่าหน้าแล้วมาก เรานั่งรถไปตามถนนเลียบแม่นํ้า และจอดถ่ายรูปบรรยากาศตอนเช้า พอดีเราไปหยุดใกล้บ้านเพื่อนเก่า เราจึงเดินไปเยี่ยมเขาและขอดูต้นไม้ในสวนหย่อมที่บ้าน สามีภรรยาคู่นี้ชอบทำสวนมาก แม้จะไม่มีที่ดินมาก แต่เขาใช้กระถางขนาดใหญ่และกระถางแขวนหลายสิบใบปลูกต้นไม้เต็มบ้าน คู่นี้จะชอบต้นกล้วยไม้เป็นพิเศษ เขามีเป็นร้อยต้น แต่ตอนนี้ไม่ใช่ช่วงออกดอก เราคงต้องรอให้ถึงหน้าหนาว แล้วค่อยมาถ่ายรูปเอกกล้วยไม้แปลกๆที่นี่
ช่วงที่ผ่านมาสองสามีภรรยา พึ่งลงทุนทำบ้านใหม่ทั้งหลัง บ้านเก่ากลายเป็นบ้านสองชั้น มีห้องให้เช่าถึงหกห้อง แต่แย่หน่อยเพราะช่วงสองสามเดือนนี้ ไม่มีนักท่องเที่ยวเดินทางกัน ห้องจึงว่างหลายห้อง สมัยก่อนที่นี่เป็นที่ชุมนุมชาวต่างชาติ มีทั้งชาวดัชท์ ชาวอิตาเลียน และชาวเนปาลที่มาเล่าห้องอยู่ระยะยาว ตอนนี้ทุกอย่างเปลี่ยนแปลงไปมาก คนที่เราเคยรู้จักก็หายหน้าหายตาไปหมด เรารู้สึกว่าความไม่แน่นอนแสดงออกมามากอย่างไม่เกรงใจกันเลย โชคดีที่มีต้นไม้ที่อยู่กับเราได้นานถ้าเราดูแลเขาดีๆ ต้นไม้น้อยใหญ่มี่เขียวขจีช่วยทำให้ชีวิตจิตใจเรามีความหวัง และมีพลังดีๆในการมีชีวิตในแต่ละวัน
If you ever traveled to Nongkhai and want a nice clean room to rent for either a day or one month, I could direct you to this very nice place. There are still retired Europeans who come to stay in Nongkhai for a few months every winter. This is a quiet small town where lots of people cycle around as habit. It is a place for artists, writers, healers who like the calm and peaceful atmosphere.
