. Several days ago I took a ‘hot bus’ to the railway station to get my advance train tickets. This hot bus has no air-conditioning system so people call this kind a hot bus; partly because the driver seems to be hot-headed full of reckless driving skills. I almost had a quarrel with the ticket vendor as I asked him to lower the sound of his Hi-Fi system which was blasting terrible music. Most passengers would just be too afraid to express their opinions. The teenage ticket vendor rudely told me to go to the back of the bus. Of course, I refused to move and stayed in my seat behind the driver. To my surprise, a elderly man who was chatting with the driver told the young man to lower the volume of his music. He probably felt that he lost his face so he just pull the jack off the loud speakers.
I thought it was going to be a simple trip to the railway station. The bus driver started giving the young man a Buddhist sermon about adulterous act as very bad karma. It turned out that this young man was somehow trying to get involved in a bad karmic relationship with married woman. He dared not looked at me as he felt ashamed. I called out to him to give me my ticket. But he gestured that he would let me have a free ride. This whole situation was quite puzzling to me. I somehow felt I was a part of this drama and I started feeling sorry for this man as both the driver and his passenger friend were all shredding him to pieces in front of all passengers. So, I tried to intercede by chatting to the bus driver whether he was ordained as a monk since he knew deep Buddhist teaching. That worked out quite well as he started to tell me about his life in the monastery and how the Abbot wanted him to leave. He said he knew Buddhism much better than his Abbot. I was quite impressed by his deep knowledge of Buddhism and how seriously he was trying to teach the young man about bad karma. By the way, this was not normal Thai norm, having conversation with bus driver, ticket vendor or other passengers on the bus. But I found this very entertaining and I liked to have some ordinary human interactions. I used to be in very formal and well regulated norms sort of environment, so this down-to-earth conversation is very refreshing to me. I got off the bus as we were still in the middle of our debate. It was a nice bus journey and I was certain they would recognise me next time I get on their bus.
I always like the quiet walk along the empty road towards the railway station. This atmosphere is very conducive to contemplation and slowing down my brain. I got another surprise; a cat greeted me. So, I had to stop for a chat and photo session. A new coffee shop popped up in this old shop-house with three cats walking around inside. Only this cat was very friendly and warm towards me; he’s an amazing PR for this coffee shop. The other pale orange cat seemed hesitant whether he should talk to stranger.
The elderly Chinese owner gave me broad smile; I asked for his permission to take photos of his cats. I told him with my mind that I had no time to linger around as I had to get my train tickets. I have this habit of talking to people with my mind or thoughts; it’s much quicker to communicate without spoken words. Sometimes I got confused whether I had already mentioned that message; I had to repeat it in spoken words just in case. This came about as I often talked to my cats with my mind at long distance. So I was talking to this cat with both my mind and in spoken words.
The other cat was very curious about our conversation but he was rather timid. He came up to see us but he would not allow me to touch him. The third cat just went into hiding. The owner made the wrong timing in converting the shop-house into a modern coffee shop; he wouldn’t know about the arrival of the pandemic any way. On the other hand, had he consulted a Chinese feng-shui master, he would be warned about putting money into any investment project these few years. Perhaps it’s people’s fate or destiny and karmic consequences which made their lives flow along certain paths. The law of cause and effect continues to flow along time continuum.
สุดสัปดาห์ที่แล้วเรานั่งรถเมล์ เพื่อไปสถานีรถไฟหัวลำโพงไปซื้อตั๋วรถไฟล่วงหน้า เรานั่งรถเมล์ร้อนที่วื่งอย่างกับรถแข่ง เราทนฟังเสียงเพลงดังสนั่นไม่ไหว เราก็บอกให้คนขายตั๋วลดความแรงของดนตรีที่แสบหูบ้าง เขาก็ทำท่าไม่พอใจและบอกให้เราไปนั่งข้างหลังรถ เราก็แปลกใจที่เขาไม่สุภาพกับผู้โดยสาร แค่เรามีคนช่วย คนที่นั่งอยู่แถวหน้าตะโกนบอกให้ชายหนุ่มลดเสียงเพลงหน่อย เขาก็เหมือนเสียหน้า เขาเลยปิดเครื่องเสียง คนขับรถเห็นอาการเขา แล้วคงอยากสั่งสอน เขาก็เริ่มร่ายยาว เรื่องบาปบุญคุณโทษ ของการทำบาป โดยยกตัวอย่างของการผิดลูกผิดเมียคนอื่น เราฟังก็งงมาก ชายหนุ่มทำหน้าเสียมาก คนขับก็เลยบอกออกมาตรงๆ ว่าไม่ควรไปเป็นชู้กับคนที่เขามีครอบครัวแล้ว คราวนี้ชายหนุ่มหนีไปนั่งหลังรถ เราคิดว่าการหักหน้ากันในที่สาธารณะคงไม่ดีแน่ๆ เราก็เลยชวนคนขับรถคุยเรื่องชีวิตของเขา เราก็ถามว่าเขาเคยบวชมา จึงรู้เรื่องคำสอนอย่างลึกซึ้ง เขาก็กันมามองหน้า และคุยกับเราแทน เพื่อนคนขับก็แจมคุยด้วย เสียงดังสนั่นรถเมล์ ผู้โดยสารคนอื่นนั่งกันเงียบกริบ เราเลยได้นั่งรถฟรี เพราะเขาบอกว่าไม่เก็บเงิน เราคุยกันจนถึงป้ายที่ต้องลง นั่งรถเมล์วันนี้เหมือนอยู่ในโรงละคร เราเดินเงียบๆไปตามถนนทางลัดไปสถานีรถไฟ แล้วก็มีแมวใจดีมาเรียกเราให้หยุดคุยด้วย ร้านกาแฟเปิดใหม่มีแมวตัวใหญ่สามตัวอยู่ในร้าน แต่เราไม่มีเวลามานั่งเล่นในร้านกาแฟ เราก็ขอเจ้าของร้านว่าจะถ่ายรูปแมวหน่อย วันหลังถ้ามีเวลาค่อยมานั่งกินกาแฟ
แมวลายดำขาวตัวนี้สุดจะใจดี มันมาคลอเคลียใกล้ชิดราวกับว่าเป็นเพื่อนที่ไม่ได้เจอกันนานมาก มีแมวสีส้มอีกตัวหน้าตาน่ารักอต่ท่าทางขี้อายมาก มันเดินมาดูว่าเราคุยอะไรกันบ้าง แต่พอเราเข้าใกล้ มันก็ถอยออกไปตั้งหลักใหม่ถึงสองรอบ มันระวังตัวมาก มันคงเจอคนแกล้งมันมาก่อนจึงระแวงมาก เรามองดูร้านกาแฟเปิดใหม่แล้ว ก็เห็นใจมากที่เขาตัดสินใจลงทุนผิดจังหวะเวลา เขาไม่อาจจะรู้ล่วงหน้าได้ว่าจะมีโรคโควิท และเศรษฐกิจจะแย่ขนาดนี้ แต่ถ้าเขาปรึกษานักดูฮวงจุ้ยชาวจีนเก่งๆ เขาก็จะได้รับการเตือนว่า ไม่ให้ลงทุนใดๆในสองปีนี้ เราคิดว่าทุกอย่างคงเป็นไปตามกฎแห่งกรรม และบุญบารมีที่จะชักนำให้แต่ละคนเดินตามชะตาชีวิต หรือลิขิตชีวิตจองแต่ละคนนั่นเอง
The black and white cat tried so hard to sell me coffee and cake! I had to tell him that I was really in a hurry. He was very persistent and tried to follow me to the road side. I had to tell him to stay and wait for me. This coffee shop needs to have a strong presence on FB and other social media. I hope to drop by to visit this new friend one day soon.
