Did you know that If you earn $25,000 or more annually, you are in the top 10% of the world’s income-earners?
-And if you have sufficient food, decent clothes, live in a house or apartment, and have a reasonably reliable means of transportation, you are among the top 15% of the world’s wealthy?
-Did you know that If you earn more than $50,000 annually, you are in the top 1% of the world’s income earners?
I stumbled across these mind blowing stats earlier on irememberthepoor.org - they have way more on their website. But it really made me check myself and think about how comfortable I really live.
In the US, we often feel like we're barely getting by.. probably in part because our cost of living is so high.. but in reality, most of us are doing amazingly well - making plenty to cover our basic needs.
So who's responsible for this wealth disparity?
-governments?
-us for not doing enough to help?
Probably both to a certain extent.
I'm hoping blockchain technology and sites like Steemit can help bridge the gap in wealth equality in the future:
Hopefully more of the poorer countries around the world will find out about Steemit and find new ways to make an income. And most of all, we need to wake up and start helping more! - I'm preaching to myself.. I would love to hear other thoughts on this!
