I wasn't able to attend what I think is the second pow-wow, but appreciate whoever it was that uploaded the meeting to youtube. I have a feeling with my busy life, my wife about to start a second job, remodeling our house, having a 2 year old, and our second son/daughter on the way trying to attend a live meeting will be difficult. If you missed the meeting here is a brief list of the topics discussed. I can't find the video to link in my post so if someone can leave it in the comments that would be appreciated!
- Questioned those in attendance on they felt about monthly dues.
- The ninja is going public to help him at least break even.
- Alliance contests
- Syndicates!
- Vission and Growth.
The Good - Syndicates
With the alliance reaching the 100 person limit the idea of syndicates was brought up to the group with leaders already selected. I'm excited about the idea of creating different groups, countries, teams within the alliance. One of the downfalls about MSP, I feel, is that individuals get lost in a sea of minnows, but think this syndicate system can address that issue and allow alliance to continue to grow.
I think each group, once it reaches x amount of people (10 may be a good number), gets to come up with their own team name. The Core was thrown around a couple of times for the original 100 members of the alliance and think this would be a cool name for the original “syndicate” team if you will.
The Bad/Good – Sneaky Ninja
is having trouble breaking even so his creator has decided to take him public to hopefully raise more funds Reason two he was made public was because without the ability to code in a white list the ability to successfully moderate who he up votes is difficult.
(assuming he was the one talking in the meeting) assured us that the content he upvotes will still be monitored and anyone who tries to use him to upvote sub-par posts can and will be put on a blacklist.
The Ugly Improvements
The possibility of a monthly fee was brought up. Some suggestions were to help contests that are started by #thealliance members to break even, but laid down the hammer . . . ok well maybe not. She did bring up some good points against using a fundraiser to help with community contests and offered some suggestion of cross promoting in other groups and across #thealliance first. I'm pretty sure she even offered to help with this if need be.
It was also brought up that the next purge will be happening soon. This made me nervous, but it was said that there are a few people that haven't contributed anything since joining the alliance and it sounded like those will be the people that will fall victim to the purge. I feel like I've been a good contributor since joining the alliance, but that's just my opinon.
Just My Two Cents
I'm against dues to be in the alliance unless the benefits clearly FAR outweigh the cons, and a very transparent system is set-up to show where the funds are going and what they're being used for. I work really hard for my "small" rewards on here (more of a statement than a complaint) so even just a few sbd a month, for me, is a big commitment.
The community guidlines need to be updated since
is no longer #theallaince only, which brings me to my next topic of creating #thealliance vision and guidelines. As we start creating syndicates we need to make it clear what it takes to be in the "core" or original 100. Making vague comments like posting "a lot", spending "a lot" of time in discord, or making a "large" contribution to #thealliance will create confusion and create drama. Having clear guidelines and a common vision will help to grow the team and create unity. This or something like this was brought up briefly in the meeting.
Finally, it would be awesome if we set-up a meeting agenda before the meeting. Once the meeting is started the group stays focused on what's on the agenda, answers any questions, and keep distractions to a minimum. I'm all up for open dicussions / tom foolery at the end of the meeting, but the "core" (see what I did there) part of the meeting should be 15-30 minutes max. The most important items can start at the beginning of the meeting and topics that aren't covered in 30 minutes can be moved to next meeting.
Anyways that's just my two cents and would love to hear from fellow alliance members on there thoughts and opinions of the most recent meeting in the comments below!
