A question I receive often as a photographer is, "What camera are you using?"
In my opinion, gear, medium, and film are just as important information as the artist's name in any piece. So, for this reason, I decided to write some thoughts and experiences on the equipment I own and use. Seeing as I often get carried away with show-and-tell I decided this edition of Gear Talk need to be split into parts. I will try and keep my inner nerd to a medium... Enjoy!

First up, the Canon AE-1 Program
Alright, I'm not afraid, I'll be the first to say it...nothing special.
However, it has been my go-to for months. Released in 1976 then updated in 1981, bringing the Program model with millions sold. They're by no means rare. The Program model and TTL metering brought full-auto vs its little brother's shutter priority only - back then simplified with brand-new users in mind. The body made of plastic and metal (for cost) leaves more to be desired. Although, this little champ used the same viewfinder as the old professional F1, and if that's not good enough for you it can be replaced as an alternative. It does come with its quirks, for one, it doesn't show you current aperture setting - you have to look at the top of the lens, and a few other idiosyncrasies. For the price, I don't have too many complaints.
My camera was gifted to me by @AmeliaBartlett, and gifted to her, and maybe so on. Each owner has taken care of the machine enough for it to work in excellent condition today. The AE-1 Program has been the perfect tool to try out some of the funky films deep in the freezer, or just tear thru some rolls only to hone my developing craft. Plus, sometimes it's nice to not fuss around with settings and functions and get connected with your subject - that creates a valuable image.
I am NOT recommending you go find one of these and use its automatic functions - that's gross, but if you're looking to get into film photography - this is a great option.
