There is change happening all around us. Part of it is on the outside, brought on by ourselves, and we can kinda predict where it is taking us. But there is another kind of change happening within us. It is something unexpected, even a bit shocking, and it is anyone's guess where we're going with it. While this abstraction can be applied to an infinite number of real situations, in the case of Itínera Theater it represents the shift from natural building to theater related topics in the second half of our weekly Conferences for a Better World.
Cinzia Ciaramicoli's Space of Creativity
Kicking off the second section of our talks, our first encounter is going to be with London-based puppeteer and performing artist Cinzia Ciaramicoli. She is known for using puppets of many different styles, techniques, and mostly sizes. They range from the tiny to the humongous, which she is going to be happy to present in our talk. Until then, take a look at the website and facebook page of her arts community The ItinerAnts.
Originally from Italy, Cinzia looks back at over 40 years of experience as an artist. She met (the theatrical half of) Itínera at the Odin Teatret in Holstebro, Denmark, where she was living as a resident artist. Her community The ItinerAnts was founded in Kuala Lumpur, by professional artists who wanted to do theater in non-conventional places. It is dedicated to the empowerment of marginalized communities, such as refugee camps, centers for seniors, in the streets and courtyards of council flats, and prisons. Its members are musicians, dancers, fine artists, and theater practitioners from the UK, Italy, Ukraine, Brazil and Malaysia. They have been putting on shows all over Europe, Asia, and Latin America, mostly in underprivileged communities. It should be interesting, so don't miss it.
Watch Out For the Time Change!
As always, the event is scheduled for Sunday, 10:30 a.m. in Mexico City, and 5:30 p.m. in Central Europe. However, that will be just after switching the clocks back one hour, marking the end of Daylightsavings in these regions. Unfortunately, that can't be said of other places, such as the US, where the switch will take place a week later, not to mention Colombia, where Daylightsavings is not even practiced. So if you would like to join our conference from those places, please remember that it will be at 11:30 a.m. for you! In any case, this is the link to our Zoom meeting.
Another Application of This Change
The abstract concept of inner change I referred to in my first paragraph, which takes us by surprise to places we would never have imagined, can interestingly be also applied to us personally. This becomes most apparent in the short video posted by my friend and colleague Manuel Ramos.
In the accompanying note he explains how one day the actors Julia Filippo and himself met with two natural builders Stef Ferreira and yours truly. We never imagined that we would exchange roles!!! Julia and Manu ended up pounding tires, and Stef and I... well, we started acting! Take a look!!!
Finally, here is a list of our next four conferences. I'm going to post more detailed info on each, but until then you can visit Itínera for more info.
