Have you ever lived in a medieval city? I had the opportunity last summer to enjoy the smell of the history of ancient Italy for two weeks...
These incredible sensations remained in my heart as amazing memories, and looking at these photos I again feel like walking in the dark by the light of lanterns in the silence of medieval Bassiano.
We arrived in Italy in August 2022. They dreamed of seeing the most beautiful coasts and famous cities of this legendary country, but were shocked by the housing prices. The minimum price of a day of life in Rome was $100. And suddenly fate smiled at us! My daughter Viktoria found an ancient village where quite decent apartments were offered - the daily cost was $30. This is how we got to Bassiano, an ancient city in the Latina region of Italy. Located in a picturesque landscape of mountains, the city preserves a rich historical heritage.
Our apartment was in the center of Bassiano. We enjoyed our morning coffee sitting on cushions on the ancient smooth cobblestones.
And at night we strolled through the narrow streets of Bassiano, where we felt the magical spirit of the night silence of the medieval village, which has preserved its original character.
Nature lovers are attracted to Bassiano by its amazing views of mountains and lush forests. If you go to the observation balcony at the highest point of the city, you will be amazed by the wonderful panoramas.
Darynka and I liked to walk slowly among the stone walls of the houses, looking at the semicircular ledges and medieval towers. The blue shutters are perfectly combined with the orange hue of the sunlit stone.
Every day we walked through the stone arches that create the unique face of Bassiano. Steep stairs lead between the houses, which are connected to each other by stone connections... It looks like mysterious tunnels.
Crazy feelings of the presence of the spirit of antiquity, walking in the glow of lanterns and watching the leisurely life of local cats :)
І am writing this description and feel the desire to enter again this gate of the last century...
Our #TheLongestTrip continues. It has been a year and four months since we left our native Ukraine, fleeing the war...
