Needless to say between the energy I have on a daily basis to do some curation, check up "what'shappenin'" on chain, crypto twitter and the usual chats there's also been quite some time to just think about the past, present and future. My health and the complications of my regular color not having returned I have to admit that a lot of those thoughts have been about Hive and Crypto in general. While I know that my family would roll their eyes and expect me to take better care of myself first I just can't help myself thinking about what is lacking, what could use improvements and what it will take for this amazing platform to go out there and welcome the masses to the new internet they've been needing without the majority even knowing about it or that it already exists.
Of course a lot of ideas may be a bit out there and I may not see the complications completely since I'm not looking at them from the eyes of a developer and what's possible but considering how early and how advanced our chain is there is very little that is impossible. At the same time I do have hope in our developers delivering, not just cause of the recent spur of activity and finally breaking off the chains of centralization that has plagued this chain for a long time but also cause I know that as someone I'd really prefer not to quote but fits well here is that "we're still ahead". Let's face it, even at the bottom of the markets there's not much that can outperform the way Hive works right now for consumers, creators and developers and this is mainly with our own inward resources alone, i.e. the reward pool. I can't even begin to imagine what's going to go down here once we start opting in the other means of income sources that the rest rely on sorely such as advertisements and something that has recently gotten bigger due to lack of performance of the aforementioned: marketing sponsors. All we need is that attention and it's not difficult to imagine how quickly it can come when the time is right and some money moves around and more importantly we are ready to seamlessly let anyone generate an (lite)account and get hiving and forget about the rest they knew the same way those of us active here daily have.
Now to begin improving one has to also look inward and I'm not going to tell you that my own activity or that of my project is where I'd want it to be, plans were set in motion and left midway but that's things that unfortunately happen now and then from unforeseen circumstances. One thing I'm glad to notice is how the other communities are growing now that we've stopped actively curating the OCD community, although I do still look in there from time to time as I do feel a bit bad for those providing good content and going unrewarded cause they "didn't get the memo" but I'm sure that over time they will. I am looking forward to getting those plans finalized and optimized as soon as I'm feeling healthier and more energetic and will have to deal with the repercussions this time off may have caused but let's face it, there's way bigger problems going on in the world right now than to cry over spilled milk.
Aside from curation and building a healthy distribution, something I've been attempting daily ever since I started my first curation trail back in 2016 I do believe we are getting there thanks to recent changes to the way the economics work and more and more stake being distributed widely. There will always be people crying foul over some parts of the system and others comparing and complaining over other parts but the point is that we are building something that's bigger than most of us here today and even if 90% of current stake gets sold and switches hands over the next 5 years it should come from as many different hands as possible and preferably into even more unique hands. Yes, I am also surprised how many times I could fit the word hands into that sentence. We are one of the best distributed currencies out there though so you can't shit on proof of brain all that much considering the rest of big currencies and how centralized their stake is and of course needless to say things only got better since HF 23.
Looking at the beginning of the last paragraph I realize I'm sidetracking again but I wanted to leave you with another thing I've been wanting to announce in the near future that has less to do with curation but I believe if done right and if the community like it and support it, we could together take it to a place that could take this ecosystem to a whole new level for adoption. I'm not going to say much more than it's something I believe I am a good critic for and the way I've fine-tuned it down to is now to a point where I'd myself be eager to get to experience it and see it come to fruition.
If I seem a bit AFK (other than right now still being in the hospital) it is most likely due to me working on getting it ready for public announcement and shortly after getting it going so it gets done as soon as possible and I really hope you guys will like it as much as I think I would if it existed right now.
Anyway, summer is starting and the lockdowns seem to be going away, for better or worse, so I hope you're enjoying your time and staying safe out there and most importantly, don't take things for granted. I thought the lockdowns were teaching us the meaning of "you don't know what you got until it's gone" but becoming sick and having to undergo surgery during a lockdown seems to be that saying squared.
On an end note, things aren't as bad as I made it out to be in that last part of this message, at least I'm not in pain and can still operate my craptop so I'll be trying to write a bit more often to get back into it and share some thoughts of other aspects of the platform I've been having while of course focusing more and more on curating and finding those new legitimate users that seem to be joining on a daily basis. Cya soon. :)
