Been a few years I've written a post like this on my phone while my battery is depleting. I even removed my 4g connection and put the brightness lower just to write a bit more on top of already having been on power saver mode all night.
Feels kind of weird the things we take for granted in the modern day, internet, warm food, cold beverages and sitting on your ass most of the day doing "internet stuff" on the computer. As someone who's been "full time" hive for the last few years I wonder how much time it would take to explain to a web2 person what I do on a daily basis and why I get rewarded for it. Or at least until he fully understood it and would that make them wanna give it a try?
I often wonder what things I take for granted in general and feel it's important to back off every once in a while and to try and see things in a different perspective.
Every now and then for instance I try to do something on hive, you could say going back to my roots as it was some of my main activities back in the early days of the chain. Checking the "recent" post list of all posts published and going through to see if I can find some gems that others may have missed out. There's as usual quite some "spam" but not as bad as when the market was at the top. there's quite a lot of short form content as well using dapps which is okay but hard to quickly determine if the users that seem new are legit or not. It takes quite some work and it is a bit disappointing that that work never really differs in rewards compared to just voting for familiar usernames.
Coming up with a system that rewards manual voters and filtering through posts has been something we've been striving with ocd but the best solution would be something that at the base layer of hive could work without it getting abused.
that's some of the things that "keep me up at night" if you will. There's definitely ideas brewing but nothing too easy to implement or without seeming like we're becoming the next stalker-ware.
Comments are usually a good indicator that someone has manually reviewed a post and upvoted it. I know there's some people who think "if they want more curation rewards they should just power up more hive" but they seem to ignore that this effort doesn't really matter how much stake you have and I'd argue the more stake you have the easier it is to put less effort into manual curation and engagement.
Why put a couple hours a day into work when you can get the same returns autovoting or trailing?
while I've noticed comment voting has become more of a norm lately it seems that it's mostly those who can afford to give proper votes out who do it which may cause people to come back more often to those authors compared to others creating similar content and being just as engaging. The authors with voting power usually spend it more on their own posts and I'm guilty there as well cause we don't have endless amount of time on a daily basis to also go out and spend vp om comment sections of others.
Either way, there's some things I'd like to experiment on here soon regarding the issues mentioned above. It's not going to be any big projects, I already got way too much on my plate as it is but I'd like to see how it plays out and the effects it could have on the platform if used by many.
Anyway, I'm down to 3% battery now so I guess time to cut this short.
Let's hope I'll be back to responding to comments sooner rather than later cause it's starting to get boring without electricity. I'm even considering picking up a book, ew.
Title came to mind due to lack of electricity from that one song from Pineapple express or superbad, not sure which one.
