I was just out for a jog and I was reflecting on my past thinking about something.
Something about myself and many other nerdy or awkward guys.
Often when we're young we lack confidence. Since we're objective we assess ourselves and see everything that is lacking. We know the people we admire and how short we fall from them.
Yet on the other hand these same guys are often great at predicting up and coming technologies or trends in the market. They can see the direction something is moving and the opportunity in that.
I know so many young guys who were into Bitcoin, Ethereum, or some other trend before it was big (even if they didn't have the money to invest). An example in my own life, when I was in college in 2008 I bought AIG stock with my student loan money days before the bailout and sold it only days later making a $500 profit. It was a huge risk and an accomplishment I was proud of.
I could see the trajectory of many things in the world and have confidence in it. Yet at the same time I didn't always have confidence in my own trajectory.
It makes a lot more sense to invest in that $1 stock that you believe in than the $100 stock which has peaked. Smart young guys get that but they can't always see that they might be that $1 stock.
I don't think you need to "fake it" or be anyone you're not.
Sell yourself on who you could be if you keep working hard and immerse yourself in your interests. Realize that even if you don't have the best clothes, hang with the cool kids, or have a lot of friends now ... you just might be an amazing deal as a friend and companion.
Hanging out with successful people is out of reach for most people... but if they're lucky maybe they get to hang with you, a guy on the rise. Remember that and don't sell yourself short.
