Yesterday I mentioned that one of the most difficult training tasks for many is 'Talk about yourself for 3 minutes'... I wanted to write about how social media changes what we disclose about ourselves and how far it is related sometimes to who we really are...
That one wasn't intended to be a very personal post, I just wanted to call attention on a phenomenon that really bothers me. However, has pointed out (and I have to agree with the comment) that based on the title one might have visited that post to get to know more about me... Well, when I started to engage on Whaleshares I have already posted an introduction post but that one was sooooo long time ago that it took me 5 minutes to scroll down in my blog history to get you the link... LOL
So let's do the hard stuff, let me tell you a bit more about myself... (To sum up shortly the basics what I have already shared: I live in Veresegyház, Hungary with my family, a German Shepherd dog and 8 cockatiel parrots, I have two identical twin boys, they are just going to be 18 in April. I am a psychologist and an economist by profession and I am involved in all sorts of leadership- and organizational development projects. In my free time I like cooking and travelling - and recently got into a little bit of photography...)
When someone asks for a longer introduction I can approach it multiple ways. If it's a business introduction then I use to quote my developmental mission which is something like:
I truly believe in development: I think everybody is able to change at any age if he or she is given motivating and inspiring goals and a supporting atmosphere. I am also a fan of self-development, I like experimenting with new techniques, I read and go to different courses. I have a passion for communication. I think learning to communicate properly is one of the hardest things in life. I also enjoy developing the personality of my clients: this is the major asset of everybody, we get in touch with others, attract them, cooperate them through our personalities and this is also something that develops with us until we live.
In case a more personal introduction is needed then I would rather talk about what is important for me or what are the things I like. Here is a (non-comprehensive list):
Smile
I love smiling and I also like to be around happy people. When I was a teenage girl I used to draw smiley faces everywhere, it was sort of a logo for me. It obviously doesn't mean that I cannot be in bad mood but can be easily cheered up if someone starts smiling and being happy around me...
Spring - sunshine - magnolias - tulips
My favourite season is spring. I had wonderful springs in my childhood, unfortunately, our climate has changed since then and we rather only have two seasons: summer and winter. But I am a fan of spring. I love the smell of the air when nature starts to wake up and everything is in blossom. I love the first warm touches of the sun. My favourite flowers are definitely Magnolias (whereever I more there is always at least one bush in the garden 😊) and tulips. (So Keukenhof in the Netherlands is my favourite garden to visit with its million tulips and other flowers...). I like laying down in the grass and watch the clouds. (I used to figure out what animals and objects can I see in their shapes when I was a kid.)
Bodily senses - bakery smell - bubble baths and jacuzzis - sangría - Chardonnay - candlelight
I love all sorts of indulgements that I can be treated with... I enjoy a good massage, warm bubble baths or sitting in the jacuzzi. I like to be loved and to love (with all the nice bodily feelings it may bring 😉). I like sipping Sangria or a nice Chardonnay at a romantic candlelight dinner or just sitting in front of an open fire. And on top of all these, I am crazy for the smell of the baking bread in front of bakeries... I love the taste of freshly made warm bread but the smell.... that is a killer for me.
Strudel
Well, this gets a separate chapter... I like cooking and baking but what I cannot make (however I love it) is strudel. I like the thin-battered Hungarian version, not the thicker Austrian one. My great-granny used to pull the pastry on a white tablecloth. I loved to watch it as a kid... Her apple strudel was the best. I have never eaten anything similar since she died. But I have a long list of the shops where they sell almost that good ones... (And I try to avoid them, because if I give a visit then I cannot really stop before I have eaten 10...)
Mediterranean sea - Croatia - Greece - Italy - Prague - Barcelona
Well, these are my favourite travel destinations: cities and countries I am most in love with. When I travel I usually like to visit a warm place with a seaside. Looking at the endless blue waters is the best type of relaxation for me. The two towns I have mentioned are dear to my heart but for different reasons: in Prague I like the huge medieval inner town, walking on the narrow streets and sipping beer at the local breweries. Barcelona reminds me of an old love and also I enjoy being there because I am a great fan of Antoni Gaudi and that is his city. There are his masterpieces all around the place.
Secession - avantgarde - turn of the 20th century
I wanted to be an artist when I was a secondary student, so I have learnt quite a lot about the history of arts. My favourite period is definitely the rise of the exciting novel directions that were born at the turn of the 20th century. I like avant-garde and if I look back a little bit in history then secession is also dear to my heart. I have already mentioned Antoni Gaudi as my absolute favourite and we have a Hungarian architect whom I also like: Ödön Lechner.
Mrozek - Hrabal - Örkény - Jung - Hesse - Eliade
If we talk about literature, I like the - sometimes black - humor of the writers of the beginning of the 20th century in Eastern Europe. I believe that being Eastern European we develop a very special sense of humour that only we can understand. Mrozek from Poland or Hrabal from Check Republik or Örkény from Hungary all have very similar styles and I love this bitter and sometimes grotesque humour that they apply. From the more philosophical writers, I enjoy reading Carl Gustav Jung, Herman Hesse and Mircea Eliade.
Well, this was me in a few words... there could be probably much more. But I guess I would use my three minutes to say something like these. But let's continue the challenge, can you also summarise yourself in a few words? I created a tag #threeminuteme if you would like to join... 😉
What would you tell about yourself in 3 minutes?
