So Stephen Hawking is one of the brihtest minds of our time. No doubt about that.
And when he has a theory about something .... that's worth reading about.
Today I stumbled about this interesting fact.
In a speech at Oxford University, Hawking has stated that humanity needs to find another habitable planet, apart from the earth. Otherwise it won't survive more than around 1,000 more years.
While Elon Musk and others are already thinking about colonizing MARS, and others have discovered the earth-like proxima centauri B this year, we are definitely not quite ready for such a huge change yet.
Hawking predicted that artificial intellinge might become a dangerous threat, paired with the dangers of global warming that are getting more and more significant.
Advances in weapons and war, like nuclear bombs, will also become a large threat to humanity.
Of course simply switching the planet won't erase social problems, but it might give us a chance to make a new start in a new ecosystem, and start doing it the right way from the beginning this time.
"We must also continue to go into space for the future of humanity, I don’t think we will survive another 1,000 years without escaping beyond our fragile planet."
