On the most exciting moments in space exploration came in 1971
when the American probe Mariner 9 Photographed what looked
like dried - up riverbeds on Mars. This suggested that million of years ago, Mars had water and a thicker, warmer atmosphere, and therefor may have supported life. In 1976, the American spacecraft Viking 1 and Viking 2 went into orbit around Mars, named the Red Planet (Rusty planet) , after the color of its soil (because of rusts), Probes descended to the surface by parachute.
Each lander collected samples of the Martian soil and ran tests to see if they
contained any life, Results were uncertain.
