Because I lived in Agusan del Norte, it is not typical to enjoy the beach with a white sand. Agusan del Norte along with many beaches are typically gray sands including Magallanes, Cabadbaran, Nasipit, Tubay, Butuan City, Carmen, Buenavista, and Jabonga. But there is a sole island with white sands nearby Islands with gray sands that is the Lucbon cove in Tubay. The water is crystal clear with the huge rocks in the deep water where we can climb and jump. To go there if one comes from Agusan del Sur and Butuan city, an area to stop by is the terminal in Cabadbaran (CBR). From Cabadbaran terminal, go to the tricycle parking area and say that your destination is for Tubay. Since Tubay is nearby CBR, it only costs 100 pesos to ride. The fare is worth it for those who are nature lovers because the roads are surrounded by green farms, rivers, and mountains.
After our one night sleeps at the resthouse of my friend, we woke up around 8 am with our foods and basic needs. The cost of the ride from Tubay to Lucbon cove is one thousand pesos (19.55 USD) but since the sailor is a friend of Maricris (a resthouse owner), we negotiated the price for 800 pesos (15.64 USD).
The drive from Tubay to the cove was brief for me because of the views we saw when we passed by. Seems like we traveled overseas to see the enormous rocks in the middle of the sea. Some rocks stay at the seashore. Another reason why I loved the place, it is not crowded. There are only two people that dwell even if no electricity.
Before going to the Lucbon cave, be cautious to these reminders:
- The cover has no electricity and the sea become wavy. Leaving from there at 2-3 pm is dangerous. It is very far from the megacity.
- The island has a signal in cellular phones but be sure to load your prepaid card because there is no store we can buy our basic needs nor loading our prepaids. Further, do not forget to charge your power banks and phones.
- Bring a lifejacket for your safety and aqua shoes. Underwater is enriched in coral reefs that hit our feet and knees when we walk beneath.
- Don't forget to bring medical kits and sunblock. As said above, the island has no convenient stores and any other services.
- Negotiate the sailor to reserve an exclusive boat for you and don't allow the sailor to leave the island until you decide to go back in Tubay.
