My parents house in south eastern Australia has an absence of moon whilst the Milky Way partially rises over their house during Christmas. Every year I try to create something like this and despite it being the height of summer am always thwarted by rain or clouds or dew. Luckily, it worked out somewhat this year. Although seeing it like this I think "I wanna get off". Also despite it being countryside, nearby small towns seem to create light pollution sufficient to cause problems.
