"Ehen, Idara, forgive me o but I think your husband is doing stuff with your maid.", Grace said.
Idara was shocked and she couldn't hide it.
"Grace!why did you say so?!", something in her did not want to believe Grace but why shouldn't she? Grace was her friend since her undergraduate days; that's for like 7 years.
"My dear, they are just too close. See...", she moved closer and spoke in whispers. "Didn't you see the way he defended her just now when you scolded her for coming back late from the market?"
Idara thought for a while. MK had never cheated on her before in their marriage of 3 years. "Grace, are you sure?"
"Idy, have I ever said anything I'm unsure of?"
Idara sat back. She was already boiling inside. How can that stupid village girl just come and take her husband away from her like that? No. It will not happen; not while she was still breathing!
Idara's mind wandered back to three days ago when she saw her husband passing some naira notes to the maid in a stealthy manner. She just shrugged it off. Perhaps, trust for her husband had beclouded her thinking.
'Ehennnnn, so Ugochi thinks she can just come into this house and take over? Over my dead body!', she thought aloud. 'I will kill that girl!'
"In fact, where is she? Where is my husband? How can the two of them be inside at the same time?"
"You see, come Idara, let's walk noiselessly and check.", Grace suggested.
Both women tiptoed to the bedroom Idara shared with her husband. She leaned her right ear against the wall. She could hear voices. She was already impatient. She barged into the room with Grace coming behind her. Her husband and the maid were startled.
MK and the maid quickly tried to cover something behind them.
"Baby, why did you barge in so violently?", MK said, smiling.
"You are a very useless man! What are you doing with this stupid small girl? Come out, what are you people hiding?", Idara, approached them and uncovered the box which they had been trying to hide.
What she saw in it shocked her. What?! It was a cake. On it was written, " Happy Birthday Wifey!"
"Now, it won't be a surprise anymore. You can take the cake now. Tomorrow is your birthday." , her husband said and walked out, the maid followed.
