I grew up playing the first Tomb Raider game when it was first released and in the later years watched Angelina Jolie's rendition of LARA CROFT: TOMB RAIDER a spot on for the video game heroine. Years later and many more sequels and reboots and rehashed, a new TOMB RAIDER movie was released with Alicia Vikander taking the role as Lara Croft. To me, I asked myself is this movie going to be good and as it turns out... well, not entirely that mediocre.
This is seriously a reboot of the movie series of course. We see the early days when Lara Croft is just a delivery biker girl making ends meet until she open a puzzle box that contains her whereabouts of her father, who disappeared 7 years ago. On to the quest to find her father on an island in the devil sea where on this island hides a legendary tale of Himiko, the first queen of Japan. There, she discovers a secret military organization calling themselves Trinity and its tomb raiding time!
Well, its a decent movie, one I wonder does it lived up to its name. Alicia Vikander really did a good job in getting herself bruised as an amateur Lara Croft and of course, the traps and the action is fun to watch. I just can't accept Walton Goggins's Mathias Vogel and Daniel Wu's Lu Ren. These two actors are seriously bad. While I am an Indiana Jones enthusiast, the traps are fun to watch. Of course, myths and legends mixed with realism I felt... just didn't take it too well for me.
Is it Good or Bad: Its fun and not too shabby. I don't see myself seriously cheering but while it feels decent, its not really the kind I would say its better than good.
