Human differences as touching cultures and social rites are enormous. Lot of things could be said about the long list of rituals and traditions that separate and divide humans along lines of ethnic groups, cultures and lots more. It is believed that culture is a man’s identity but going by this, we could conclude that lots of people have really weird identities courtesy of the many outrageous traditions and some rituals they undertake. This is not an attack on any culture, race, tribe or group of people, but you would have a better understanding of my position going through the following ten sex rituals;
Semen Drinking Papua of New Guinea
New Guinea, a country in Africa has got this. Becoming a man from the little in this primitive tribe has a traditional process it takes. Boys are largely isolated from females and made to live with other male children for ten years. During this time, their skin are pierced through to remove any contamination brought upon them by women. They are also made to consume large amounts of sugarcanes which usually incur nose-bleeding and vomiting. To crown the ritual, they are made to drink semen of their elders, believing that will sustain their growth and strength. They would be returned to mix with the females in the tribe after that process but are left with marks of nose bleeding which usually occur at the same time as their wives’ menstrual cycles.
The Trobianders: Underage sex of the Papua tribe, New Guinea.
This is a sexual tradition where kids are made to have sex at six years old. These people popularly called the islanders are from the remote tribe of Papua, Guinea. Girls here want sex as much as guys and are made to have sex from the age of 6 and 8, and the guys between 10 and 12 without any social stigma attached. There are also few cases of dating to inhibit hooking up and of course wearing of revealing clothing. Girls actually go topless at times. The most shocking part of the custom is that while everybody could have sex when they want, premarital meal-sharing is not allowed. Couples are only allowed to go out for dinner together after marriage.
Saut d’Eau: City vulnerable to ritual of voodoo and love
This is a tradition in Haiti. If you have especially visited the waterfall of Saut d’Eau in the month of July, you may have experienced the risqué ritual. Practitioners do this to worship the goddess of love and it is seen as something really normal. A bunch of naked people are always twisting and wriggling around in mud mixed blood of animals used for sacrifices, sometimes having the heads of goats and cows thrown into the mix. This usually appear as the people are exhibitionist lovers to strangers.
Wife-sharing Himalayas of Nepal
An article in Psychology today once had it that all of the few polyandrous societies practice this rite that the anthropologists call fraternal polyandry. This means that a group of brothers share a wife among them. In the Himalayans case, this has been traced to the little land available for farming and agriculture, which therefore means that families with more than one son have to divide their lands among them to start their own family. They now found a solution to this problem by getting a wife for all their sons to make them live together as a family and keep their lands intact. It works best when the wife is adept in sharing time with the brothers just perfectly. I am still amazed with this.
Wife-Stealing Wodaabe of Niger
The Wodaabe is a tribe in Niger Republic where men steal each other’s wives. Parents get their children’s marriage arranged at infancy and it is usually between the cousins of the same lineage. During the annually conducted Gerewol festival however, Wodaabe men wear heavy makeups and customs to dance and entice the women, and through this they get to steal new wives. If you can be crafty enough to steal a new wife away unrecognized, you can then be recognized socially. These are marriages regarded as love marriages in their land.
Intimate Manhood Cutting Mardudjara of Australia
Weird and painful but real, the first portion of this people’s aboriginal rite involves a barbaric circumcision followed by the circumcised ingesting his own foreskin. After the circumcision injury must have healed up, the penis is then cut lengthwise on the underside usually all the way to the scrotum. This is then purified by dripping its blood on fire. From thence, the male child will urinate from the underside of his penis instead of the urethra to allow the urethra perform a single task. The challenging question to ask here is how does destroying a boy’s manhood bring him to manhood?
Public Masturbation Practice by Ancient Egyptians
The Egyptian pharaohs ritually masturbate into river Nile to ensure abundance of water with the belief that even the ebb and flow of the river was caused by Atum’s (a name for their god of creation) ejaculation. This way, the Egyptians were inspired into the act of self-simulation during the festival of the god which is believed to represent Pharaoh’s sexual potency.
Ancient Greek: Where Concepts of homosexuality are out of the Closet.
To the ancient Greeks, sexual orientation isn’t a social identifier as it is in the western world. Sexual desires are not distinguished based on genders, rather by the role each participant play in a sex activity. They are concerned about the active penetrator and the passive penetrated. This polarization is believed to correspond with the dominant and the submissive social roles. The active role is regarded as masculinity, higher social role or adulthood and vice versa.
Ancient Greek: Where Pederasty was the Social Convention
This same sex relationship called boy love, and very common in the ancient Greece culture. It is usually between an older male and an adolescent youth. A boy is only regarded as a boy until he grows full beard. In Athens especially, the older man was called erastes and his duties are to educate, love, protect and provide sexual guidance to his eromenos whose reward for him in doing all that lies in his beauty, youth and perhaps promise. It is largely considered inappropriate to love a boy below but no evidence suggest a legal action against the practice.
Undies Wearing Inis Baeg
The 1960s researches discovered that people of Inis Baeg, belonging to an island off the coast of Ireland have sex with their clothes (notably underwear) on, and that they only do it in the missionary position. The church usually preached sex as a spouse responsibility and advised foreplays never extend beyond kissing and maybe touching the rare end. Nudity is largely frowned at in the island as it is considered sexually repressed.
Temporary Marriage Arranging Iranians
This is a modern day Iranian culture where you can have a temporary marriage if you pay for it. This is usually done to assist couples that wanted to have sex before their marriage as part of the strict Muslim law in the land. They would be allowed to do a short ceremony with the amount of time they would be living together in contract. Following the expiration of the contract, they can now have sex like bunnies without contradiction to Islamic laws. You must be thinking a temporary marriage should be allowed in America too now.
