A group of 17 former American officers called for limiting the right of US President Donald Trump to use nuclear weapons, CBS reports.
Soldiers who had previously been responsible for launching nuclear missiles sent a letter to Congress stating that Trump "represents an obvious and real danger for the country and the world."
The document also mentions Trump's latest reports on Twitter, in which he claimed that his nuclear button is larger than that of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un. In the opinion of officers, such statements are dangerous and fraught with a "catastrophic miscalculation."
The ex-military noted that the USA president has absolute power, for deterring which to date "there are no reliable guarantees."
Earlier, Congressman David Sisilain demanded to discuss a bill prohibiting a preventive nuclear strike against the KNDR without the approval of the congress. According to him, Irresponsible statements by Trump "exacerbate the situation" on the Korean peninsula.
