Pisa
THE TOWER ISN'T FALLING
Woah, it was really hot in Pisa today. I made it out to see the famous leaning tower. It's one of those things I've kind of been wanting to see, but finally saw it on my way to seeing something else. I was surprised by three things;
It's very clean! I expected it to be more like a ruin, but its not only complete, it's also very clean and shiny. It's like it's been given a good wash. I know they wash buildings in Rome every decade or so. Maybe the tower just had one of those cleanings. Not only the tower, but the other buildings looked very clean and well looked after too.
How accessible it is. I expected it to be more difficult to access, more like St. Marc's tower at the Basilica in Venice. You can basically walk up to it and get really close. It's not free to go in, you have to pay, but it's not too bad. Most people would be happy just taking photos next to it, like all the other crazy tourists making push poses haha, (yes I did it too), because of how close you can actually get to it.
I didn't realise you could actually enter it and go up to the tup. I was under the impression that the tower was in danger of falling and was in some kind of maintenance mode. It must be all those cartoons I've seen it in where it's been moved and shoved around by all manner of characters including the Incredible Hulk haha. Far from it. It's structurally sound and will be standing for far longer than it already has, save for a devastating earthquake or bomb.
It was a nice day out. The tourist market around Pisa wasn't too big and the vendors weren't imposing themselves either. It was just really nice vibes.
Peace & Love,
Adé
