The city of Guanare, is located in the Andean piedmont, at 185 meters above sea level. It was founded in 1591 under the name of "Villa del Valle del Espíritu Santo of San Juan de Guanaguanare". It is a relatively small population in comparison with other state capital cities. In the image you can see a shot of the bolivar square at dawn.
A gazebo is part of this square that despite having been renovated several times retains some characteristics of yesteryear. In the roundabout it was customary to make the "retreat", touch so that the members of a barracks or the prisoners of a jail are collected at night to sleep. That meaning is due to the fact that the construction of the fund was the old jail of the city. However the "retreta" in america was always considered as a cultural act, a concert that offers a band in public walks or squares.
Bolivar Square, as its name indicates, is a site dedicated to commemorating the main procer of the country, Simon Bolivar. In Guanare we have the particularity of having an equestrian statue of the liberator, this type of equestrian statues exists in very few cities of the country.
