Waipio Valley is located to the NE corner of Big Island, and is little off of the beaten path. It is easy to get to but long way from the resort towns.
But after a long drive, when you get there you are greeted with this scene. It is a normal fault induced landslide feature on the northern edge of Kohala volcano. It is surrounded on three sides by 2500 ft tall sea cliffs, with waterfalls coming down, as if from the sky.
People live there down in the valley. There is taro farming in the valley and one of the most beautiful secluded black sand beach. Go there if you can, you won't regret it.
