Love Locks in Venice
Venice, Italy
Love locks, locks put on bridges and fences to signify the bond between loved ones. This act supposedly originated in the small Serbian town of Vrnjačka Banja over 100years ago, where during WWI a young women fell in love with a Serbian soldier. The soldier went of to war and fell for another women, leaving his first love heartbroken at home in Vrnjačka Banja.
This tale spurred young women of the town to secure their own loves, by placing locks with their initials on bridges and fences throughout the town.
By now this trend has stretched the world over, but no where is it as prolific as the romantic city of Venice, where the Ponte dell'Accademia is covered with these symbols of love.
