Gomel is not in vain called a student city! In the city there are as many as 10 higher educational institutions, which every year produce several thousand specialists who have higher education in various specialties.
That is why, on January 25, 2010, in Tatyana's day (a holiday of all students) a few meters from the entrance to Gomel State University. F. Skaryna on Sovetskaya street, 102 (52.442195, 31.001624), a monument to an unknown student was solemnly opened. The author of the sculpture is the Gomel architect Yana Konovalova, and the idea of the installation belongs to the community of Gomel students.
Sculptural composition is a girl sitting on the steps with a book on her knees, an apple in her left hand and a woman's handbag lying next to her. According to the author of the project, this sculpture will serve not only as decoration of the building of the university, but also a mascot for many students, who want, that their educational session took place without "tails".
