Es war schon immer einer von Fidis größten Träumen endlich mal einen Wombat zu sehen. Da wir wussten dass es diese im Wilsons Promontory bei Dämmerung zu sehen gibt, durfte der Park natürlich auf keinen Fall ausgelassen werden.
Der Wilsons Promontory Nationalpark, oder kurz auch "Prom" genannt, liegt auf einer Halbinsel in Victoria und ist der südlichste Punkt des australischen Festlandes. Der Nationalpark ist nicht bewohnt jedoch gibt es im Gebiet des Tidal River einen Campingplatz, ein Infozentrum und einen Kiosk.
It has always been one of Fidi's biggest dreams to finally see a Wombat. Since we knew that you can see them at dawn at the Wilsons Promontory, the Park could not be left out.
The Wilson's Promontory National Park, or "Prom", is located on a peninsula in Victoria and is the southernmost point of the Australian mainland. The national park is not inhabited, but there is a campsite, an information center and a kiosk in the area of the Tidal River.
Bei unserem ersten Besuch konnten wir leider keinen der beliebten Plätze auf dem Campingplatz ergattern da Schulferien waren und wirklich alle 450 Stellplätze ausgebucht waren. Wir mussten somit in Foster übernachten was ungefähr 30 km vom Eingang des Nationalparks liegt. Vom Gate aus sind es dann noch einmal 30 km bis Tidal River.
On our first visit we could unfortunately not get any of the popular places on the campsite since school holidays were and really all 450 parking spaces were booked. We had to stay in Foster about 30 km from the entrance of the national park. From the gate it is another 30 km to Tidal River.
Im Prom Nationalpark kann man super wandern, es gibt Wanderwege von 2 km bis ich schätze mal 30 km (nicht unser Gebiet), wunderschöne Strände und eine gigantische Tierwelt.
Wer wilde Kängurus, Wallabies, Emus, Koalas und Wombats sehen möchte ist hier genau richtig.
Und da wären wir dann auch schon beim Stichwort: Wombats!
Leider waren wir beim ersten Besuch nicht erfolgreich, konnten nur eine Mutter mit Baby aus der Ferne sehen. Daher haben wir unseren Aufenthalt um eine Nacht verlängert aber auch einen Tag später konnten wir keinen der superschnuckeligen Wombats entdecken. Schweren Herzens verabschiedeten wir uns vom Prom und haben dann im Wildlife Park auf Philipp Island unseren ersten Wombat aus nächster Nähe sehen können (samt kuscheln).

Unfortunately, we were not successful on the first visit, could only see a mother with baby from afar. So we extended our stay by one night but also one day later we could not discover any of the super-wombats. We said good-bye to the Prom and then we were able to see our first Wombat at close attention in the Wildlife Park on Philipp Island (including cuddling).
Aber die Fidi wäre nicht die Fidi wenn sie nicht rumgequengelt hätte. Denn kurz bevor wir unsere Reise beenden wollten sind wir noch einmal in den Prom gefahren, dieses mal konnten wir direkt am Tidal River übernachten und waren den Wombats somit ganz nahe.
Und dieser Ausflug hatte sich dann mal so richtig gelohnt denn zwei mal haben wir die Wombats gesehen. Ganz in der Nähe des Campingplatzes gibt es einen schönen kleinen Wanderweg und dort hat der Wombat einfach unseren Weg gekreuzt (Wallabies auch). Wie ein kleiner Panzer kam er aus dem Gebüsch und stand plötzlich vor uns und Fidi war endlich Glücklich! Und ich hatte meine Ruhe! 😃
And this trip was then really worthwhile as two times we have seen the Wombats. Very close to the campsite there is a nice little hiking trail and there the Wombat simply crossed our way (Wallabies also). Like a small tank he came out of the bushes and suddenly stood before us and Fidi was finally happy! And I had my peace! 😃
