Regensburg is a quaint old German town, with cobblestone alleys, cafes to while away the hours, cathedrals and shopping. I was excited for the new day so I rose before dawn in hopes of capturing the early morning light and a rising golden sun. I was not disappointed.
From the ship I could see folks cycling along the Danube, a pastime enjoyed by many in the area who find the early morning air "fresh" and full of life.
A city tour was included so my wife and I sat back and viewed the city from the comfort of the air conditioned motorcoach, passing by an above ground cemetery, cobblestone streets and many other interesting sites.
We made a stop at Regensburg Cathedral, a medieval church of skillful design, where I captured an image of the beautiful painted ceiling and a Mass in progress.
The quaintness of the city is captivating and women are well informed to leave their high heels in the closet. At this time of day, the light was perfect for photographing the meandering cobblestone alley ways and bicycles parked under the archway. Window boxes filled with local flowers adorned the passageways provided a lovely scent as we walked by on our way back to the ship.
Regensburg is a beautiful and colorful old world city. We won't forget the open air cafes or the rolling landscape dotted with onion domed buildings or the setting sun as we sailed off into the night.
