I awoke about 6:30 this morning and decided to take a stroll through the town of Hua Hin and onto the beach while most holiday-makers were still tucked in their beds.

HUA HIN
Hua Hin is a charming little sea-side town about 2 hours south of Bangkok and is a very popular weekend getaway for people living in the city. in recent years it has also become popular for European retirees due it warm weather, great food and reasonable living costs.

THE TOWN
The town was originally a fishing village and mainly consists of 3 to 4 story shop-houses. Many of these have been converted into restaurants, bars and guesthouses. The only high-rise is the Hilton Hotel which dominates the foreshore in front of the town. Located next to the Hilton is the beautiful colonial Sofitel Hotel. If you have ever seen "The Killing Fields" you will recognize it.

THE BEACH
Hua Hin in Thai means "Head Rock" due to the numerous large boulders which dot the beach. During the day, vendors set up chairs and umbrellas to sit under and eat and drink. The beach is several kilometres long and the water is warm and clear. Children can take pony rides up the beach if they wish.
